Rooted in West Alabama
Founded in Tuscaloosa, AL in 1955, Red Oak Credit Union began its journey with a clear and simple mission: to serve the dedicated employees of Druid City Hospital and their families. Over the decades, we’ve extended our reach beyond the hospital to serve all who live, work, worship or attend school in Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, and Sumter counties.
Forging a Future, Honoring Our Past
For 65 years, we served the West Alabama community as DCH Credit Union, even though our membership included more than hospital employees. In 2020, we changed our name to Red Oak Credit Union to reflect our growth and our roots in the community.
Member-owned
Being entirely owned by our members means that, unlike large commercial banks that aim to maximize profits for their shareholders, we’re focused on delivering value directly back to our members. Every account holder is not just a customer but an integral part of our credit union. Our board of directors are Red Oak Credit Union members themselves, elected by their fellow members, ensuring that our direction and decisions are truly reflective of our members' best interests and needs.
By prioritizing our member’s financial growth over profits, we’re able to reinvest earnings back into the credit union, enhancing our offerings and services for members rather than distributing profits to stockholders. This model fosters a stronger, community-focused financial institution where you can trust that your assets are managed with your best interests at heart.
